The Massacre of My Mizunos

Yesterday was the last 20-miler of my training! 3 weeks until the big day! It went okay despite the recent demise of my ipod, less than enough sleep and a bad attitude ;) My in-laws took Maci for the night so I could go early in the morning. So, I woke up and ate my deliciously bland oatmeal, packed my camel-back pack and tied on my brand new Waverunner Mizunos (remember the goal is comfort.....not cuteness). Around mile 6 I noticed a gnawing discomfort on both feet. Oh well right? What am I gonna do? Just keep running. Eventually I couldn't feel anything below my waist so I didn't stop for fear I wouldn't be able to start again ;) No, seriously. So I get home, start stretching, regain feeling in my lower extremities, and reach down to untie my trusty shoes and see this (see below picture)...... Baffled by my color changing shoes I look closer and realize it is blood.....
Yep, bled through my shoe.....but didn't notice until 3 hours later. First reaction: Ah man! My new shoes! Second reaction: Ah man! My feet KILL!!
Sorry for the gory sock but I am posting this to remind my future self how painful this was. Be grateful that I spared you the picture of the actual flesh wound ;)

Kristin!! I'm so glad you found me, small world huh?
I'm so sorry about your new waverunners, that's the kind of shoes I wear too. 20 miler? Are you running the St. George? Look at you Mrs. tough! How fun, I'm glad we can stay in touch now. Good luck with your feet, ouch!

You are NUTS lady! I can't believe you kept running & didn't even notice that your foot was falling off your leg! Seriously, I don't know how you do it, but you're amazing. Good luck with the marathon. :)

Congrats on your 2o miler. When I ran my marathon(when Caitlyn was the exact same age as Macie) I only ever ran 18 miles (4 times) you'll do great! The same blister problem happened to me last time I ran a 16 miler. It sucks. But my legs are always numb after about 11 miles. I feel your pain. Good luck!

Hey- you are so ready for your marathon. It can't really get worse than that- can it?

BTW- that is freaking awesome. I always knew that Marathoners were Masticasts (sp?) in disguise. Best of luck to you- you are going to tear this race up (and maybe your feet again... but doing it again can't be that bad- right?).

Fun to see you last Friday. I hope that you don't think I am too crazy of a mom, and that I have a pretty crazy kid... See you soon!
