Lessons in Domesticity

I figured it was time.
I've denied it long enough. I'm officially a "canner".
(actually, shouldn't it be called "jarring"?...just sayin')
12 jars of cinnamon sugar peaches....locally grown I might add.

24 jars of fresh pears (freshly "jarred" that is)

2 pints of pesto....made with basil that I grew in my own backyard weed garden!

9 quarts of homemade Vegetable Marinara Sauce made with amazing
tomatoes, peppers and basil from Caldwell's mini farm.

6 quarts of prepared frozen mangoes and peaches for use in smoothies or baking.

It wasn't as time consuming as I thought it would be, and was actually very satisfying work. I made excuses for a few months as to why I couldn't do it... I needed my Mom's equipment, I don't know what i'm doing, I don't have anywhere to store it, etc.....but once I invested in basic canning paraphenelia and watched weeks of amazinf produce go to waste, I had to try it out. I think i'm hooked.
Now if only I could get my family to eat fruits and vegetables....
it might actually be worth it!

Mmmm. Caldwell's mini farm is so delicious. I'm jealous of the pears. We canned tons of tomatoes and some jalapenos, but no fruit. Maybe next year.
