Northwest Passage Ragnar Relay 2010: Superhero Stampede

At the center of our whirlwind trip was the Ragnar Northwest Passage. I have been dying to run this race since its inception! It was everything I could have imagined and more! We were honored to join a team last minute....The Superhero Stampeded. This group of people have run it every year since the first and they have it down to a science!

We met them early that morning and all became fast friends by the time we reached the start line :) Amazing people...each with great personality, team spirit, determination and great sense of humor.

I forgot to pack Tanner's superhero costume....luckily one of the gals on our team happened to have a bright red unitard as a part of her costume that she wasn't going to use. We improvised :)

My handsome Ragnar Founder at the start line. I think it was really hard for him not to help his crew....luckily he had his mean wife there to put her foot down!

Yeah, that's me. His wife. Superwoman.

I was blown away by the incredible scenery along the way. My first leg included a trail run along the shore, running over the water on a bridge, small town streets with gorgeous green all along the way. Tan took this picture below from his phone.

Tan finishing his first 30 lbs lighter-8 min mile-ragnarly leg :)

Supporting our teammates at dusk.

Not bad to look at eh?

It was so much fun to run together with Tan. This is the first time in seven years that we've ever been able to run one together. Now that I'm spoiled I don't think I want to run without him :)

My night run was amazing. Except for the howling....it was pretty great to run in silence, looking at the stars and lost in my thoughts.
My last leg was by far my favorite! As I set out I was surrounded by alfalfa and strawberry fields and a light fog. the road wound down to a beautiful rocky shoreline and then into a forest with trees dripping with dew. It ended just outside of a small oceanfront community. It felt like a dream....seriously, I can't remember ever running such a diversely beautiful run.

The finish line was on Whidbey Island

Ragnar put on another Fantastic event.....probably my favorite thus far :)
